Michigan & Smiley are Jamaica's Legendary Reggae Dancehall Singing Duo superstars of the late 1970s first wave of dancehall music, consisting of Papa Michigan (born Anthony Fairclough) and General Smiley (born Erroll Bennett).
They first recorded at Clement "Coxsone" Dodd's Studio One in Jamaica, pressing their first number one hit single, "Rub a Dub Style", which featured their call and response style vocals, overdubbed on the Studio One riddim, "Vanity" (the instrumental alias given to Alton Ellis' Rocksteady classic, "I'm Just A Guy").[1] Their next single, perhaps a larger hit, "Nice Up the Dance" was a version of the quintessential Studio 1 rhythm, "Real Rock". These singles, with four other tracks, also versions of Studio One rhythms, were released as their first album, Nice Up the Dance. The names of these two singles were quickly incorporated into the lexicon of dancehall phraseology. Their call and response style was likewise influential on the future developments of the music, blending together straightforward singing styles and toasting. By 1982, they caught the attention of Henry "Junjo" Lawes, who recorded their biggest hit, "Diseases" over the "Mad Mad" riddim. This track was featured on their second LP, Downpression. They went on to cut an album for Channel One Records, Step by Step. The last of their hit records was "Sugar Daddy", pressed on RAS Records, which featured yet another reworking of "Mad Mad". The duo continues to record and make appearances at festivals and have both released solo recordings.

Born in Santa Fe, New Mexico in 1979, the man known as MIster Kali discovered his musical talents at an early age. While still only in his teens he played guitar in many local bands of various styles and genres. However, in 1997 when he first sighted Haile I Selassie I, H.I.M, his musical as well as spiritual journey into REGGAE music began. In 2007 his "Shake Weh Yuh Have" & "Weed Fi Smoke Up Now" entered a number of international reggae charts; namely the 3 & 20 spots on the October 2007 Kenyan Reggae Charts, put together by METRO 101.9 fm in Nairobi. As a live performer, he is a force to be reckoned. Normally accompanied by his longtime spar Sgt. Remo, they deliver a fyah blazing live set. Kali and Remo were blessed in March 2008 to accompany legendary performer the Original General Smiley on a Southwestern tour and again alongside General Smiley and Ken Serious in October. The year 2009 brought forth a New Mexico Music Awards nomination for Best Rap Song for the collaboration with Santa Fe hip-hop artist Circumference for the song "Do What I Does" available on Circumference's sophmore album Resolutionary.
In November 2010 Mister Kali released his debut album STEP FAST on his own label Dread I Arts in association with Ceremony Studios. Jah Yutes Entertainment released a compilation with new Mr. Kali music as well as his own production on various other tunes called REGGAE SOULJAHS WORLDWIDE Vol.1 and also promoted a US tour in the summer of 2011 featuring Kali, General Smiley, Ken Serious and Sgt Remo. In addition to his own music, Mr. Kali is part of the Santa Fe based BoomRoots Collective, a progressive reggae and hip-hop band that also features Circumference 360 and AezRock. In 2012, Mr. Kali continues to bring his brand of reggae music to the masses, currently working on producing a handful of riddim releases as well as few new projects as well as his return to the radio airwaves, hosting blu 102.9 FM new reggae radio show-Culture Shock, airing every Sunday night at 7pm and streaming on the web at santafe.com
